Our Mission

The Native Theater Movement is a national, multi-generational movement created to elevate the artistry and sovereignty of Native American Artists within major hubs of U.S. Theater. Our network of Native Artists and Culture Bearers aims to represent and build a future where Native theatrical artistry is treated as vital and integral on our ancestral lands. Native artists, stories, and communities deserve to flourish with dignity, abundance, celebration, and respect. We are here to help broaden the pathways of representation, resources, and opportunity through Native-led storytelling, education, awareness, conversation, and reciprocal relationships with Native and non-Native partners.

Our Vision

We are building towards a theatrical landscape that produces Native-authored work across institutions, invests in training and opportunities for Native artists, supports Native-led organizations and leadership, builds authentic, reciprocal relationships with Native communities, and encourages allyship through collaboration and advocacy.

Our Method

As a resource-sharing organization in service of Native theatre artists in the U.S. and its territories, we serve our community through curating critical resources, conducting field-wide research, producing free programs and events for both Native and non-Native artists, and providing an organizational voice to platform, advocate for, and support the experiences of Native theatre artists.
